On October 20, 2020, Her Excellency Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations, met with His Excellency Volkan Bozkir, President of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA). During the meeting, they discussed areas of mutual interest including the PGA’s priorities for this session, upcoming mandated events of the General Assembly, and the impact of and the opportunities presented by the COVID -19 pandemic relative to the work of the United Nations.
They also discussed the Flagship event to be hosted by the Government of Guyana under the theme “Maintaining a low-carbon development path towards the 2030 Agenda in the era of COVID-19” and the Forty-fourth G77 and China Ministerial meeting which will be held on October 29-30, 2020 and November 12, 2020, respectively.
The President of the General Assembly expressed his support for Guyana’s Chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China and his desire to work together to advance the objectives of leaving no one and no country behind.
